Shipping & Drop Shipping
Mastering Your Shipping Logistics
Shipping & Drop Shipping
Retailers, manufacturers, and distributors often struggle to get products from their stores, warehouse, or supplier to customers. Sometimes these products need to be shipped using carriers like UPS, FedEx, and USPS, whereas, other times they need to be delivered using their truck fleet or a local delivery service such as Roadie. Managing the flow of the orders and shipments is daunting for anyone who has more than one location. Drop shipping adds to this complexity because the products you need to ship may not actually be in your store or warehouse. Instead, the products get shipped directly from your supplier to your customer.
Modern Retail suite of shipping and drop shipping services will help you get packages to your customers in the most efficient manner. Don’t have an item from an order in stock? No worries, we’ll help you place an order with your supplier and have them drop ship the order directly to your customer. Do you have multiple stores and need help routing orders to the correct location for fulfillment? No problem, our Ship From Store feature is just what you need.
Our integrations with ShipStation and ShipEngine provide nearly endless possibilities when it comes to your shipping and rate calculation needs. Modern Retail also has the ability to build upon the rates obtained from ShipEngine to meet your specific business requirements. Additionally, we can help you estimate when products will arrive at your customer’s doorstep with our Availability Rules Engine.

We have you covered no matter what complexity your customers throw at you!

Retailers with multiple locations can struggle with shipping products to their customers. Oftentimes they need to cross-check inventory in their point of sale system with the items being ordered. They may even have to call their other stores to transfer goods to the main store, so they call to fulfill their online orders from one spot. While a warehouse can simplify the fulfillment process, it leaves underutilized inventory sitting on the shelves.
Modern Retail’s Ship From Store feature solves this problem by treating your stores as warehouses. Every location, whether it’s a store or warehouse, is treated as a warehouse. Ship From Store routes orders to the correct location based on the inventory in these locations, and a customized set of rules you can create and modify. This allows you to expose all the inventory you have for a product, regardless if it sits in one of your stores or your warehouse.
If you need an example to clarify how Ship From Store can help, let’s say you have frozen steaks and pork chops that need to be shipped from one warehouse and t-shirts, mugs, and other tchochkes that need to be shipped from a completely different warehouse. Our Ship From Store feature will automatically split the order based on the product type, sending the steaks and pork chops to the refrigerated warehouse, and the t-shirt and mugs to the other warehouse.
Modern Retail’s Ship From Store shipping partner is ShipStation. If you haven’t heard of ShipStation before, you should definitely check them out because they simply make shipping easy.

Ship to Home / Drop Shipping
Drop Shipping allows your vendors and suppliers to send goods directly to your customers. Modern Retail can help you manage your Drop Ship orders with your vendors, and we can also tell your shoppers when items have been shipped from your suppliers, as well as when they can expect to receive their delivery.
Please read our Distributor Integrations page for more information on how Modern Retail can help you link your website to your suppliers.
Ship From Warehouse
Building on our Ship From Store feature, Ship From Warehouse is tailor-made for distributors. We help you figure out which warehouse should ship the goods to your customers.
Ship To Store
Modern Retail can help you integrate with your distributors, essentially making them an extension of your physical store’s inventory. This allows shoppers to have items sent directly from your suppliers to your store for in-store pickup.
Admin Panel
None of our solutions work without our amazing Admin Panel. The Admin Panel is a very snazzy website that allows you to configure your locations, rules, providers, fees, and other shipping settings. Additionally, it shows you how your orders were routed to your stores, warehouse, and suppliers for fulfillment. While the Admin Panel automatically sends your orders to ShipStation for fulfillment, it also allows you to reroute orders to another carrier for say local delivery or to a store for in-store pickup. Customers can be finicky and can often change their minds on how they want you to get them their products or shipments. Luckily, the Admin Panel is flexible enough to handle even the most demanding customers.
Website Widgets
Displaying shipping estimates on your website is essential to giving your customers confidence you can get products to them when they need them. However, it is no longer acceptable to show availability during the checkout process, when the customer is nearly done with their purchase. Instead, many retailers find it helpful to show shipping estimates and availability directly on the product page. Luckily, Modern Retail has developed “widgets” that can be used to display this information anywhere on your website. The same widget can help customers choose between shipping, local delivery, or in-store pickup. We can even provide real-time shipping rate estimates directly on your product pages.
Availability Rules Engine
Shipping and delivery aren’t complete if you don’t talk about Availability. While Availability seems like a simple concept, it can be quite complex, and essential to get right. Letting customers know when their products will be available is vital in keeping your shoppers happy and minimizing inquiries into your customer service desk. Modern Retail’s Availability Rules Engine allows you to specify when products will be available to your customer whether they are picked up in-store, locally delivered, drop shipped by your vendors, or shipped via traditional carriers. Every vendor and source can have rules defined, which tells customers when they can expect their order. This is no small task given products may be coming from multiple suppliers, varying operating hours, delivery schedules, etc.
Here’s a real-world example to demonstrate the flexibility of our Availability Rules Engine.
